Hannah Georgas
Hannah Georgas is a Canadian pop and rock singer-songwriter from Newmarket, Ontario, and is based in Vancouver, British Columbia. She is born in 1983.
Early work and first releases
In high school, Georgas plays in a band with Tim Oxford of Arkells. She later moves to Victoria, British Columbia, to attend university. While studying, she records a set of demos in a friend’s studio and begins to attract interest from other local musicians. Her debut EP, The Beat Stuff, is released in 2008.
Recognition and early singles
The Beat Stuff receives airplay on CBC Radio 3. In 2009, CBC Radio 3 names Georgas the winner of its Bucky Award for Best New Artist. After a show in New York City in 2009, she is invited to write a song for a Wal-Mart commercial. The resulting track, You've Got a Place Called Home, appears in the company’s autumn advertising campaign.
Albums
Georgas releases her first full-length album, This Is Good, in 2010. Two songs from the album, Chit Chat and The Deep End, also appear on a split single with Mark Watrous in 2009. In 2016, she releases another full-length album, For Evelyn, following several singles that feature tracks from the album.
