Hand To Hand
Hand To Hand is an American post-hardcore band from Oviedo, United States, active from 2003. The group’s sound combines post-hardcore and metalcore, with elements of contemporary hardcore, rock and roll, and old school metal. Its line-up includes Zachary Swain, Brock Berryhill, Robert Kellom, Steve Martin and John Radford.
Style and approach
The band uses vocals that move between singing and screaming, pairing melodic hooks with heavy breakdowns. Its music is described as drawing on hardcore energy while also taking in broader rock and metal influences, and it is presented as an effort to move beyond the limits of earlier work.
Releases and recording
Hand To Hand’s first release is the five-song EP Fast Forward Your Thoughts, recorded with producer James Paul Wisner, who has also worked with Underoath, Further Seems Forever and 36 Crazyfists. The band later returns to Wisner to record its debut full-length album A Perfect Way To Say Goodbye, released on Lifeforce Records. Its later discography includes Breaking The Surface and Design The End/Follow The Horizon.
Reception and touring
A Perfect Way To Say Goodbye brings the band its first notable college radio attention, including strong placement on CMJ Loud Rock charts. Hand To Hand also develops a live following through extensive touring in the south-east of the United States, regular shows in hometown venues such as The Hard Rock Live, and touring in Europe booked by Avocado Booking.
