Halsey is the stage name of Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, a singer and songwriter from Washington, United States. The name Halsey refers to the Halsey Street station in Brooklyn on the New York City Subway and is also an anagram of her first name.
Career
Halsey signs her first recording contract with Astralwerks and releases the debut EP Room 93 in 2014. Their debut studio album, Badlands (2015), reaches number two on the US Billboard 200 and is certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. Halsey appears as a featured artist on The Chainsmokers' 2016 single “Closer”, which reaches number one in several countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom.
The second studio album, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom (2017), is preceded by “Now or Never”, which becomes Halsey’s first top 40 entry as a lead artist. Halsey later releases the singles “Nightmare” and “Graveyard”. The third studio album, Manic, is followed by If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power in 2021. The theatrical film connected to that album is directed by Colin Tilley and is screened in select IMAX cinemas around the world before the album’s release. Halsey’s fifth studio album, The Great Impersonator, is released in 2024, and the associated tour, For My Last Trick: The Tour, runs in 2025.
