Half Pint

Half Pint is a Jamaican reggae, dancehall and dub singer, born Lindon Roberts in Kingston, Jamaica in 1961. He comes from the West Kingston area of Rose Lane and is known by the nickname Half Pint, which he receives from Mr. Brown, the father of one of his mother’s friends in nearby Waterhouse.

Career

His first single, Sally, appears in 1983. He follows it with Winsome, which is later covered by the Rolling Stones in 1987. Other singles associated with him include Mr. Landlord, Level the Vibes, Substitute Lover and the hit Victory.

Notable songs and influence

His 1986 single Greetings helps popularise the term “raggamuffin” in wider use. Loving is also significant as the basis for Sublime’s 1996 hit What I Got.

Name note

The name Half Pint also refers to a separate Miami Bass rap artist.
