H-Foundation

H-Foundation is a US house duo made up of Brian Varga and Eric Galaviz, also known as Brian “Halo” Vargas and Eric “Hipp-E” Galaviz. Varga is associated with Chicago and Galaviz with San Diego. The pair join forces through a shared interest in house music and develop a sound linked to deep house, tech house and dub-influenced house.

Releases and style

One of the duo’s earliest productions is “Here Dis Sound”, released on San Diego label Siesta Recordings. The track becomes a reference point for later dub-influenced house and is taken up by club DJs and tastemakers in the UK and Europe, including Pete Tong and Carl Cox. H-Foundation also issue follow-up EPs on Moody Recordings in Chicago and Camouflage in Toronto.

Solo work and collaborations

Both members pursue solo projects as well. Halo releases “My Sound” on Siesta, while Hipp-E works with Tony of Tango Recordings and records on Grayhound and Tango. The duo also collaborates with West Coast producers including DJ Dan, Onionz, Master D, Terry Mullan and Angel Alanis.

Collective projects and labels

These producers form the 6400 crew, issuing releases on Yoshitoshi, Electrik Soul, Shaboom and Siesta. H-Foundation also works with labels such as Low Pressings, Soma, Shaboom and NRK on productions and remixes. NRK’s nite:life 02 presents a continuous DJ mix by Halo and Hipp-E and serves as an introduction to their work in tech-house.
