Gypsy & The Cat
Gypsy & The Cat is an alternative pop duo from Melbourne, Australia, formed in 2008 by former Melbourne DJs Xavier Bacash and Lionel Towers. The group is active from 2008 and later ends in 2016. Their sound sits across indie pop, electropop and electronic music.
Career
The duo gives its first live performance in London in 2010, and it is based there for much of that year. Its debut album, Gilgamesh, appears in 2010. During 2011, the group receives substantial airplay on Triple J, Nova and Fox. It is also nominated for an Unearthed J Award in 2010 and ends that year with three songs in Triple J’s Top 100 for the year.
Across 2010 and 2011, Gypsy & The Cat tours widely in Australia, Japan, Germany and Hong Kong, and also performs further shows in the UK. In June 2011, the duo supports Kylie Minogue on the Australian leg of the Aphrodite Tour, with the opening night at Brisbane Entertainment Centre.
Albums
The group releases its second album, The Late Blue, in 2012, and its third album, Virtual Islands, in 2016. After its final tour, the band splits up on good terms.
