Guy Gerber

Guy Gerber is an Israeli electronic music producer and DJ associated with minimal, house, techno and progressive house. He begins making music after a period as a youth footballer: while playing for Israel’s Under 16 national team, he starts to play guitar and turns from football towards music. His influences include Joy Division, My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, Soft Cell and The Beach Boys, and his work is described through bittersweet harmonies, deep grooves and bass-heavy arrangements.

Early releases and labels

Gerber first appears on record in 2002 and releases material on a range of labels, including Bedrock, SAW, King Street, Kinky Vinyl and Alternative Route. His release on Bedrock, Stoppage Time, becomes a notable club track and appears on compilations by artists including Kiki, Francoise K, Wally Lopes and Sven Väth. He also releases This Is Balagan as the first part of a three-single deal with Cocoon, and Belly Dancing on Cocoon Recordings. He runs the imprint Supplemental Facts, and later operates Rumors, which releases Mora Minn in 2017 and What to Do EP in 2018.

DJ work and live performance

As a touring artist, Gerber uses Ableton in his DJ sets and performs at festivals and clubs internationally. His appearances include MUTEK in Montreal, Sónar in Barcelona and Gods Kitchen in the UK, as well as shows across Europe alongside Richie Hawtin, Tiefschwarz and Mathew Jonson. His music is played in venues and events such as Cocoon at Amnesia, DC10 in Ibiza and Secretsundaze in London.

Recognition and other work

Gerber receives several awards in Israel, including the Israeli Music Association award for Best Israeli Electronic Artist in 2003, the MTV and a leading dance music magazine award for Best Electronic Producer in 2003, and Best Export Artist in 2005. He also composes for contemporary dance in Israel, working with the choreographers Ohad Naharin and Sharon Eyal.
