Guts is the recording name of Fabrice Franck Henri, a French hip-hop producer from Paris. He works in abstract hip hop and hip hop, and is linked with Alliance Ethnik and the label Heavenly Sweetness.

Career

Guts first appears in record credits under “composition and production” before building a reputation as a beatmaker through work with Alliance Ethnik, Big Red and the Svinkels. He begins releasing solo material in 2007 with Le Bienheureux.

He later broadens his sound on Freedom, a darker record issued on his own label, Pura Vida. After moving to Ibiza, he releases Paradise For All in 2011 on Heavenly Sweetness, the label he continues to use for later work.

His interest in hip hop starts in the 1980s, and he devotes his time to production and musical exploration. In 2014 he releases Hip Hop After All, a studio-based album built from a wide range of sampled sources. He then releases ETERNAL in 2016, drawing on electro-funk, afro-disco and space jazz.

Later releases

Guts issues the EP Stop The Violence in 2017. In 2019 he turns toward an Afro-tropical direction on PHILANTHROPIQUES, again continuing a style based on beatmaking, sampling, cutting and sequencing.

Style and approach

His work is rooted in hip-hop production, with an emphasis on sampling, reconstruction and musical variety rather than a fixed style. Across his solo releases, he moves between darker production, Afro-funk influences, tropical elements and more experimental instrumental forms.
