Guns 'n' Wankers

Guns 'n' Wankers is a punk band from London, United Kingdom, active from 1991 to 1994. It forms from members of British punk group Snuff and rock band The Wildhearts, and it is made up of Duncan Redmonds on vocals and guitar, Patrice Walters on drums and vocals, and Joolz Dean on bass guitar and vocals. The group forms in early 1990, on the same day that Snuff plays its farewell gig at the Kilburn National and Walters is released from duty with The Wildhearts.

Formation and early line-up

Redmonds contacts Walters after having seen him play years earlier in a band called The Milk Monitors. Walters then calls his friend Joolz Dean, completing the line-up. The band originally considers the name Cunts n' Wankers, but decides against it.

Recordings and releases

After touring around the United Kingdom with acts including Leatherface, NOFX and Wat Tyler, the band records demos. These coincide with a tour of the Basque region of Spain, where the demo copies sell well. Sean of Wat Tyler, who runs Rugger Bugger Records, helps fund a full recording session, which takes place in Hitchin, Hertfordshire and is produced by Andy Davies.

The recordings first appear on Rugger Bugger Records as three 7-inch EPs: Hardcore, Pop and Metal. A free release called A Silly EP also appears in limited numbers with an issue of Fear & Loathing fanzine. NOFX’s Fat Mike later shows interest in issuing the material on Fat Wreck Chords, and the release is edited down to an eight-track album, For Dancing And Listening. This album receives a positive response and remains well regarded within punk circles.

After the split

The band splits soon after, following the reformation of Snuff. Patrice Walters later plays with singer-songwriter Marc Carroll in The Hormones, while Joolz Dean forms the punk band Dogpiss. Some Guns 'n' Wankers recordings remain unreleased.
