Guillaume Perret is a French saxophonist from Annecy, France, born in 1980. His work spans jazz and related improvised and electric forms, and he plays saxophones and electronics.

Career

Perret leads and co-leads several groups. He is one of the leaders of Collectif Lebocal, a large ensemble formed in 1998 that brings together improvised music, rock, jazz and electronics. In that group he composes, arranges, conducts and produces, and also edits the music on computer. The ensemble has released four albums on Harmonia Mundi and Bee Jazz.

He also leads Colifichets, a Swiss experimental rock quartet that has included guitar, drums, trumpet, laptop, samplers, electric sax and effects, with a guest singer. Another project, No Square, is a contemporary jazz quartet that he has played in since 2003 and which has released work on Altruisioni. He is also associated with Guillaume Perret & The Electric Epic, DR(DR)ONE and Lebocal.

Education and teaching

Perret earns a DEM in classical saxophone with unanimous distinction at the conservatoire in Annecy-Chambéry in 2000, then a DEM in jazz with honours in Chambéry in 2001. He also holds a state diploma in jazz and current music. Between 2001 and 2005, he teaches saxophone, group work and improvisation to students of different instruments at Divonne-les-Bains, and also gives private lessons and workshops during tours at music universities in Thailand and Vietnam.

Collaborations and performances

He performs widely as a sideman and with occasional formations, and his work includes collaborations with Hadrien Feraud, Manu Codjia, Damien Schmidt, Marc Erbetta, Fred Duppont, DJ Goo, Yohan Serra, Frognstein, Urban Sax, Jeremy Tordjmann Project, Ixis, Pascal Alba Group, Rebop 5tet, Lindemann 5tet and PPA+. Earlier tours and musical projects take him to New York, Montreal, Toronto, London, Poland, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Bosnia-Herzegovina, France, the Netherlands, Thailand, Argentina, Chile and Vietnam. He also works with Glenn Ferris, Benoit Sourisse, Olivier Ker Ourio, Franck Tortiller, Nguyên Lê, Benjamin Henocq, Sangoma Everett, Rita Marcotulli, Kirk Lightsey, Flavio Boltro, Marcello Julliani, DJ Chill Pop, Moncef Genoud and Francis Coletta.

Perret has 14 recorded releases in his discography. His projects include albums made with Collectif Lebocal and No Square, alongside other releases across his various ensembles and collaborations.
