Guillaume & the Coutu Dumonts is the solo project of Montreal-based Canadian artist Guillaume Coutu Dumont. He works across electronic music and combines funk, house, techno, gospel, swing, barbershop quartet and afro-beat in a hybrid style. He is active both in his hometown and internationally, and maintains a number of collaborative projects alongside this solo work.

Background

Guillaume Coutu Dumont begins his musical path as a percussionist in a funk band. He then studies Latin and classical percussion in college before moving on to electroacoustic composition at university. During this period he joins the contemporary jazz group [iks], with whom he records two albums and tours in Senegal for several months.

Composition and projects

After returning to Montreal, he turns his attention to composition. His work is influenced by concrete music and techno, and he develops several other projects and aliases, including Egg, Luci, Chic Miniature and Flabbergast. He also helps found the artistic collective Racam.

Release history and touring

Under the Guillaume & the Coutu Dumonts name, he works on an album for Mutek_rec and Musique Risquée. He also tours under his various projects in Latin America, Europe and Asia. At one point he divides his time between Paris and Berlin while continuing to perform and develop his music.
