Grimm Twins

Grimm Twins are a group from Macclesfield, in the Manchester area, active since 2018. They play garage rock, garage punk, alternative rock, indie rock and punk rock, and they describe themselves as a five-piece with three members and two twins.

Formation and line-up

The band forms in 2018 with twins Harry Ward on vocals and guitar and Joe Ward on drums. The other members are Tilly Morris on synthesizers and keyboards, Will Taylor on bass guitar and George Cole on lead guitar. Their first performance takes place at Manchester School of Art, where they play a fund-raising show for Harry Ward and fellow students’ degree shows.

Early activity and releases

During 2018, the group puts out a song online each month, which helps build attention around them in Manchester. Their track Generation Z is played by Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 1, and it is also picked up by the US station KEXP. In April, they support Cabbage on the Nihilistic Glamour Shots UK tour. Their debut EP, It’s Grimm Up North! EP, is released in 2018 on the Bleichpop Corporation Ltd. label imprint.

Grimm Twins are associated with Macclesfield, a town they link to a number of other acts, including Joy Division, Mr. Scruff, Marion and The Macc Lads. Their name and early presentation reflect a Northern identity, and they continue as an active band.
