Grimes is Claire Elise Boucher, a Canadian singer, songwriter, record producer, music video director and visual artist from Vancouver. Her music draws on dream pop, synth-pop, art pop, electronic, experimental pop, R&B and hip hop, and her later work is also associated with alternative rock, ambient, avant-garde, avant-garde pop and chillwave.

Career

Grimes begins releasing music independently in the late 2000s. In 2010 she releases two albums, Geidi Primes and Halfaxa, on Arbutus Records. She later signs to 4AD and gains wider attention with her third studio album, Visions, in 2012. That record includes the singles “Genesis” and “Oblivion” and wins the Juno Award for Electronic Album of the Year.

Her fourth album, Art Angels, arrives in 2015 and receives strong critical praise. Her fifth studio album, Miss Anthropocene, follows in 2020. She also releases Miss Anthropocene (Rave Edition) in 2021, with remixes by BloodPop®, Modeselektor and Channel Tres.

Later releases and collaborations

After Miss Anthropocene, Grimes continues to work in a more futuristic and experimental style. She releases the standalone singles “Player of Games” in 2021 and “Shinigami Eyes” in 2022, both linked to the long-discussed project Book 1. In 2023 she releases “I Wanna Be Software”, works with Sevdaliza on “Nothing Lasts Forever”, and appears on Anyma’s “Welcome to the Opera”. She also appears on Anyma’s “TARATATA” the following year.
