Granite State
Granite State is a hip-hop duo from New Hampshire, made up of lifelong friends Bugout and Doug York. Based in Exeter, the pair present a blue-collar perspective and focus on everyday struggles rather than gun talk, jewellery or heist stories. Their music reflects two different backgrounds and viewpoints, but shared frustrations.
Debut release and sound
The group’s debut album, The Breaking Point, frames itself as a first release with years behind it. It includes tracks such as “Said and Done”, “My Sweet Revenge” and “What Up B?!”, and presents experiences they describe as underrepresented in mainstream hip-hop. The album features production from DC the MIDI Alien and Statik Selektah.
Radio play and live shows
Granite State places music on mixtapes internationally and receives airplay from DJ Premier, DJ Geespin, Sirius Shade 45 and Groove FM in Australia. Their follow-up single “Gone With The Wind” appears on Sirius satellite radio’s Hip Hop Nation top five hit list. The duo performs widely across the Northeast and headlines sold-out venues in New Hampshire.
Collaborations and shared stages
The group shares stages with Method Man, Krumbsnatcha, Royce 5' 9", Devin The Dude, Black Sheep, 7L & Esoteric, C-Rayz Walz, Louis Logic and Akrobatik. Their work is associated with underground and political hip-hop, with a regional focus on Northern New England.
