Gotts Street Park is a Leeds, United Kingdom group made up of Josh Crocker, Joe Harris, Tom Henry and Adam Nicolle. They come out of Leeds’ live music scene and work as producer-writers as well as performers.

Background

The group forms through connections made on the city’s live circuit, with members playing in and around local bands and venues. Their work centres on recording together in the same room, using a collaborative approach to writing and production.

Sound and approach

Gotts Street Park build their music around live group performance and a studio method that recalls the practices of classic soul and pop recording. Their approach draws on the working methods associated with Sun and Stax in Memphis and FAME and Muscle Shoals in Alabama, while updating those ideas with a modern sound and texture.

Their music sits across jazz, soul, indie pop, funk and jazz hop, and also reflects a shared interest in movie soundtracks and film scores.

Writing and production work

Individually, the members write and produce for artists including Kali Uchis, Yellow Days, Celeste and Mabel. Alongside that outside work, they collaborate with emerging vocalists as part of the group’s own recordings.
