Gormathon

Gormathon is a Swedish melodic death metal band active since 2009. The group forms in February 2009 with Stefan Jonsson on guitar, Tony Sandberg on drums and Tony Sunnhag on bass and vocals. Its early aim is to combine death metal intensity with melodies and harmonies associated with traditional metal.

Early recording and line-up

The band begins recording its first material in April 2009, handling much of the process themselves. In May 2009 it works at Studio Soundcreation in Bollnäs to record vocals. Later that month, Thomas Hedlund on bass and Peter Sonefors on guitar join the line-up. The personnel associated with the group also includes Tony Hedlund, Peter Sonefors, Stefan Jonsson, Tony Sandberg and Tony Sunnhag.

Demo, radio play and label deal

In June 2009 Gormathon decides to issue a three-track demo. The band then receives airplay on Swedish Radio P3 Rock in July 2009 and also attracts positive reviews in Sweden Rock Magazine issue 64 and Close-Up Magazine issue 115. In September 2009 Johnny Hagel at Bonnier Amigo Music Group contacts the band after hearing the tracks, and in February 2010 Gormathon signs with Supernova Records Sweden AB, the metal label under Bonnier Amigo Music Group AB.

The group is associated with melodic death metal, power metal and speed metal.
