Goldfish

Goldfish are a live electronic duo from Cape Town, South Africa. The group consists of Dominic Peters and David Poole, both jazz musicians who meet while studying music at university. Since forming in 2004, they build a sound based on downtempo, electro swing, electronica, nu jazz and trip hop, with a performance style that combines live instrumentation and electronic production.

Early recordings and breakthrough

The duo record their first album, Caught in the Loop, themselves using a small setup centred on double bass, saxophone and a few synthesizers. That self-released album draws a cult following and brings them a run of hits in South Africa. They become known to fans as the “Fishies” and are voted best live act in their home country.

Live performance and international work

Goldfish tour widely and play live dates across the world. They open for Fatboy Slim, Mr Scruff, The Audio Bullys, Paul van Dyk, Pete Tong and Stereo MC’s. Their performances are often described through the way they combine double bass, saxophones, keyboards, flute and vocals with samplers, effects, synths and improvisation.

Albums and releases

Their second album is signed to Pacha. Perceptions of Pacha is released in connection with the Winter Music Conference in Miami and includes 10 new tracks. Its international edition adds a second disc with a live performance video and remixes by DJs from around the world. The duo also tour the US and Europe during 2008 and hold a four-month Friday night summer residency at Pacha Ibiza.
