GOL
GOL is a French electronic group founded in 1988 in Paris by Jean-Marcel Busson, Frederic Rebotier, Ravi Shardja and Samon Takahashi. The ensemble works through improvised performance and uses a wide range of instruments and sound sources, including flutes, horns, guitars, violin, toys, homemade instruments, tapes, turntables, voices, percussion and electronics.
After playing numerous concerts, GOL releases the LP Gol 01 in 1993, then stops for a long break of nearly ten years. The group reforms in 2002 for occasional recording sessions and infrequent live appearances.
Its music is described as acoustic in orientation but strongly electric in texture, and it moves across hard-to-classify forms such as corporate mambo, hard cool heavy lethal, psychedelic disco, electroacoustic flask and tropical experimentalism.
The name GOL also refers to other acts, including G.O.L. or Gods of Leisure, Gol Onlily, and a raw black metal band from Australia.
