God Seed
God Seed is a Norwegian black metal group from Bergen, Norway. It forms after former Gorgoroth members Gaahl and King ov Hell adopt the name in March 2009, following the end of the dispute over the Gorgoroth band name. The project continues the style and musical ideas both musicians contribute to Gorgoroth, and it is presented as a new beginning built from their earlier work.
History
After a few performances under the God Seed name, vocalist Gaahl leaves in July 2009 and the group is put on hold. King ov Hell completes the music intended for the first God Seed album with Shagrath of Dimmu Borgir on vocals and releases it as Ov Hell. Gaahl rejoins God Seed in 2012.
Releases
In 2012 the band releases the live album Live at Wacken, recorded in 2008 while the group still tours under the Gorgoroth name. The set consists entirely of songs written by King ov Hell or Gaahl. Later that year the band issues its first studio album, I Begin.
Name and membership
The name God Seed is chosen for several reasons in the band’s own concept: it refers to the will to grow, the god within humanity and nature, and the drive to reach one’s highest potential. It is also the title of a track from the last album released under the Gorgoroth banner, linking the old project to the new one. The group’s members include Gaahl, King ov Hell, Geir Bratland, Kenneth Kapstad, Lust Kilman and Sir.
