Glykeria (Γλυκερία), born Glykeria Kotsoula in Agio Pnevma, Serres, is a Greek singer active since 1974. She begins her career in the Athens Plaka music boites, performing songs by composers including M. Hadjidakis, M. Theodorakis and M. Loizos.

Career

Glykeria works in Greek popular music and folk music. Over the course of her career she appears in concert and on record with a wide range of artists, including A. Kaldaras, S. Fotiadis, Natacha Atlas, Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Loukianos Kilaidonis, Mary Linda, P. Thalassinos, Sotiria Bellou, George Dalaras, Marinella, Ofra Haza, Ricky Gal, Chava Alberstein, Amal Murkus, Paschalis Terzis, Ilias Aslanoglou, Antonis Vardis, Sarit Hadad and Fortuna.

Notable appearances

In 1982 she is selected to represent Greece at the Europalia festival in Brussels, alongside Sotiria Bellou, George Dalaras and Margarita Zorbala. In 1986 she performs “Earini Symfonia”, with poetry by Yiannis Ritsos and music by Yiannis Markopoulos, at the opening ceremony of the World Championships held at the Athens Olympic Stadium. The performance is broadcast to audiences in many countries.

International work

Glykeria gives concerts in Greece, Europe, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Cyprus, Israel and Turkey. Following successful performances in Israel, she is described as a popular foreign singer there, and the Mayor of Jerusalem awards her the golden key of the city in 1994. Three albums are released in Israel at the same time and reach gold status quickly: Glykeria golden-hits, Far away and Glykeria – 14 classics. She also releases her first album in France, Golden hits – The voice of Greece.
