Glenn Aitken

Glenn Aitken is a New Zealand singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Lower Hutt, born in 1970. He learns classical piano and theory before teaching himself guitar and saxophone. During university he plays in pub and club bands, then after graduating he begins a solo career performing in bars in New Zealand’s North Island.

He spends many years working overseas, playing in China, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Maldives. In 2003 he receives a publishing contract for his songs in London, where he is based thereafter. His music is published by MPL Communications Ltd, and he becomes a featured writer on the MPL Communications website.

Aitken's debut album, Extraordinary Lives, is produced by John Ravenhall, with mixing by Larry Sturm at Pressure Point in Chicago. The album includes guest appearances by Greg Lyons and Paul McCartney.

His song The Way appears on Sir Paul McCartney’s compilation of favourites for UNCUT magazine. He is a finalist in the UK Songwriting Contest in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2010, including as a double finalist in 2006, when W is voted third highest among all entries. He also receives an honourable mention in the 2005 Billboard World Song Contest and is runner-up in the WeAreListening.org singer/songwriter awards.
