Glasser

Glasser is the recording and stage name of Cameron Mesirow, an American singer-songwriter from Boston, United States, born in 1983. Her music combines layered electronic production with acoustic instrumentation and her voice, and it is associated with dream pop, experimental music and indietronica.

Style and name

Her work uses dense electronic textures alongside organic instruments, and she is often compared with artists such as Fever Ray, Björk, Bat For Lashes and Florence + The Machine. The name Glasser comes from an image of a figure hovering over water.

Early releases

She first comes to wider attention with the Apply EP on True Panther Sounds. The release also appears as a UK-only 12-inch on Young Turks. At that stage, she makes much of the music herself using GarageBand, working alone in places such as airplanes and shoe stores.

Ring

Glasser releases her debut album, Ring, on True Panther Sounds in 2010. For the album, she works with producer Ariel Rechtshaid to rebuild her arrangements and add strings, woodwinds, bass and a wide range of percussion to earlier sparse recordings. Van Rivers and the Subliminal Kid also co-produce a number of tracks and transitions.

Ring is structured around the idea of a ring, or chiastic, form, with songs arranged symmetrically rather than in a fixed beginning-to-end sequence. The album moves through ideas of fantasy, hope, pain, travel, change and emotional contradiction, and places the voice at the centre of the music.

Reception and touring

Her EPs and live performances bring her attention and lead to support slots on tour with The xx, Jónsi and Delorean. Her music is described as combining intimate and luxurious electronic songcraft with abstract, emotionally direct writing.
