Glass Ankle

Glass Ankle is an indie-folk and dream-pop band based in Manchester and Cheshire, England. The group is led by songwriter and producer Greg Jackson, who starts the project with a suitcase of songs shaped by time spent living and travelling in Japan. He then forms the band with musician friends, and the music develops around soaring melodies, boy-girl harmonies, guitar and synth passages, and a subtle experimental approach.

Style and reception

The band’s sound sits across indie folk, dream pop and indie rock, with comparisons drawn to Yo La Tengo, Beach House, Gomez, Tunng, Belle and Sebastian, and the 13-era Blur. Their music is described in terms of melodic songwriting, lo-fi synth textures, understated charm and a mix of acoustic and electronic elements.

Releases and airplay

Glass Ankle release the six-track EP Fragments, which includes songs ranging from light ukulele-led folk to darker, more unsettling material and stuttering string arrangements. The release receives positive reviews and radio play from BBC Radio Introducing in Manchester, XFM and BBC 6Music.

Live work and profile

The band are featured in Drowned in Sound’s Drowned in Manchester coverage as a band to watch, and they have live dates associated with the Fragments release, including the BBC Introducing Showcase at the Ruby Lounge in Manchester and Ravenstonedale Festival. They also progress through the voting stages of the EuroMusic Contest as the top UK band at that stage, reaching the final shortlist in Paris.
