Girlpool is an indie rock group from Bloomington, formed in 2013 by Avery Tucker and Harmony Tividad. The band begins as a sparse, drummerless duo and develops into a fuller indie rock act over its first few releases.

Early releases

Girlpool first appears with a self-titled EP in 2014, followed by the debut album Before the World Was Big in 2015. These early recordings present the group in its stripped-back format, before its sound broadens on later material.

Sound and development

Across subsequent records, Girlpool moves towards a more traditional indie rock style. The group’s later work, including Powerplant in 2017 and What Chaos Is Imaginary in 2019, draws on the tension and guitar sound of 1990s alternative rock, alongside lush arrangements and bright harmonies influenced by classic radio pop.
