Giraffes? Giraffes!

Giraffes? Giraffes! is an instrumental alternative rock group from Santa Cruz. The band forms in 2004 and is active from then to the present. It centres on Joseph Andreoli and Kenneth Topham.

Members and instruments

Joseph Andreoli plays guitar, loops and effects. Kenneth Topham plays drums, percussion, glockenspiel, bells and even found percussion such as pots and pans. Both musicians also play guitar and drums, but in the band Andreoli focuses on tapping and plucking while Topham taps and hits.

Background

Andreoli and Topham grow up in Massachusetts and first meet at college in New Hampshire, where Topham studies music and Andreoli studies literature. After meeting, they form the band together.

Style and releases

The group is described as psychedelic math rock, and its broader classification includes experimental, instrumental, math rock, post-rock and alternative rock. Its debut album is SUPERBASS!!!! (black death greatest hits vol. 1), released in 2005. A later album, More Skin With Milk-Mouth, appears on Loves in Heat Records.
