Giraffe Tongue Orchestra

Giraffe Tongue Orchestra is a United States rock supergroup active from 2012. The group brings together William DuVall of Alice in Chains on vocals, Brent Hinds of Mastodon on guitar, Benjamin Weinman of The Dillinger Escape Plan on lead guitar, Thomas Pridgen of The Mars Volta on drums, and Pete Griffin of Dethklok and Zappa Plays Zappa on bass.

Formation and line-up

The band is founded in 2012 by Ben Weinman. Its membership changes during its early history: Juliette Lewis appears at one point, while Eric Avery plays bass and Jon Theodore plays drums at another stage. Weinman says Lewis is not officially the singer and only adds some vocal lines.

Release history and live appearances

The band’s debut album, Broken Lines, is released in 2016. Its ten songs are written before DuVall joins the group. On the track “Back to the Light”, Juliette Lewis contributes a vocal cameo. The group’s first live performances take place at Reading and Leeds Festivals in August 2016.

Style

The group is associated with alternative rock, experimental, hard rock, progressive metal, and progressive rock.
