Gimp
Gimp is a punk rock band from East Brunswick, New Jersey. The group includes Tomas Kalnoky on guitar and vocals, Jason Scharenguivel on bass, Chris Greer on drums, and Achilles Kalnoky, who plays violin on one track. The band is also associated with punk, ska, ska punk and grindcore tagging in circulation, but its documented work is centred on punk rock.
History
The band records one release in 1995: a cassette album called Smiles for Macavity. It is difficult to find on cassette, although the tracks circulate online. One of the album’s tracks, Supernothing, features Achilles Kalnoky on violin and later appears again in re-recorded form with two later projects connected to Tomas Kalnoky: Catch 22 and Streetlight Manifesto.
Gimp ends when Kalnoky decides to move beyond punk music. After some members leave, Kalnoky and Chris Greer remain together, add a horn section, and form Catch 22.
