Gilla Band, formerly known as Girl Band, is an Irish post-punk and noise rock group from Dublin, active since 2011. Its line-up includes Daniel Fox, Dara Kiely and The Claque.

Background

The band forms in Dublin in 2011 and builds a following through live shows in Ireland and the UK. Early releases include the 2012 single In My Head and the track You’re a Dog, which help establish their profile.

Recordings and style

Gilla Band signs to Rough Trade in 2015. In the same period, they release a run of singles and EPs, as well as the album Holding Hands with Jamie (2015). Their later album The Talkies (2019) is described as drawing on techno and glam influences. Their sound sits across industrial, no wave, noise, noise rock and post-punk, with experimental rock also associated with them.

Notable reception

In 2015, The Irish Times describes the group as one of the most striking acts from Ireland at the time, noting the intensity of their sound.
