Gerry And The Holograms
Gerry And The Holograms are a UK minimal wave and new wave act made up of John Scott and C.P. Lee, also known as Christopher Paul Lee. Scott is associated with Manchester artists John Cooper Clarke and Jilted John, and is also connected with a project called 48 Chairs, which may be a band or a solo project. Lee previously plays with Alberto y Lost Trio Paranoias until that group disbands in 1978.
Recorded work
The group releases two singles on the Absurd label in 1979. Their first single, Meet The Dissidents, uses distortion and repetition in a style associated with industrial music and the Residents. Their second single, Emperor's New Music, is intended as a conceptual joke and is unplayable; the record consists of a badly pressed Slaughter And The Dogs single glued into the sleeve.
Later recognition
Lee is such a fan of Frank Zappa that he auditions for the Mothers of Invention, although both Lee and Zappa decide not to continue with the idea. In 2017, The Complete Unreleased LP appears on the Finders Keepers label, collecting unreleased material by the group.
