George Thorogood & The Destroyers

George Thorogood & The Destroyers is an American group based in Newark, United States, active from 1976 to the present. The band plays blues rock, boogie rock, electric blues, hard rock and rock, and is led by George Thorogood, who performs vocals and guitar.

Origins and line-up

George Thorogood is a blues-rock and rock guitarist and singer from Wilmington, Delaware, and is also known as “Lonesome George”. The group includes Ron Smith, Jeff Simon, George Thorogood, Bill Blough, Hank Carter, Steve Chrismar, Jim Suhler and Buddy Leach.

Recording history

The band records its first album, Better Than the Rest, in 1974, though it is not released until 1979. Its major recording debut comes with the 1977 album George Thorogood & The Destroyers. The following album, Move It On Over, appears in 1978 and includes the title track, along with “Please Set A Date” and “Who Do You Love”.

Notable songs and albums

During the 1980s and 1990s, the band records some of its best-known material, including “Bad to the Bone”, “I Drink Alone”, “You Talk Too Much” and “If You Don’t Start Drinking, I’m Gonna Leave”. “Bad to the Bone” is also associated with its use in Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Christine. I Drink Alone appears on the Maverick album.

Commercial performance

To date, the group releases sixteen studio albums. Two are certified Platinum, six are certified Gold, and the band sells fifteen million albums worldwide. George Thorogood is known for an animated stage presence and loud electric slide guitar playing.
