George Pringle

George Pringle is a United Kingdom-based spoken word and electronic artist. She begins writing music at 16, first using her older brother’s guitar and teaching herself bar chords. She records early demos at home on a broken two-deck karaoke machine during school holidays, and also records late at night at boarding school using tape recorders and the assembly microphone.

She performs alone and in bands before moving away from guitar and using GarageBand software, which she acquires at 21. Her work combines electronic music with spoken recitation and poetry, and she describes herself as a “Diseuse”, a female monologue performer. She makes music on an iBook G4 that she calls Truman.

Pringle is based in Oxford. Her brother, who later becomes a DJ, influences her thinking about making music, and the LCD Soundsystem track “Losing My Edge” is an early reference point for her. Her performances are karaoke-style, and she plans to incorporate projections of her photo journals into live shows. Her demos attract praise from Music Week, and her music is described in terms that include shoegaze-pop, poetry and electronica, blog-like lyricism, and glitchy, slightly haunting pop.

She appears at several festivals and warm-up shows in support of her debut single. Her broader artistic profile places her at the meeting point of indie, electronic music and spoken word performance.
