Gently Tender
Gently Tender is a London-based British indie band formed by former Palma Violets members Sam Fryer, Pete Mayhew and Will Doyle, with Celia Archer of The Big Moon and guitarist Adam Brown also in the group. The band emerges from the later period of Palma Violets, when the members begin writing and developing new material rather than starting again from scratch.
Background
The group forms after the end of Palma Violets, with the early work for Gently Tender growing out of songs and ideas developed during that period. The band is presented as a continuation of musical exploration rather than a complete break from the past, but with a different line-up and a broader sound.
Sound and style
Gently Tender’s music is described as fuller and richer than their previous work, with psychedelic touches, warm harmonies and a strong emphasis on group singing. Their style brings together indie rock, garage rock, chamber pop and neo-psychedelia, with songs built for communal performance and a wide, open sound.
Members
The line-up includes Celia Archer, Adam Brown, Will Doyle, Sam Fryer and Peter Mayhew. Archer’s connection through The Big Moon and Brown’s addition are part of the band’s expanded identity beyond the earlier Palma Violets configuration.
Related history
The members come with a history of touring and working closely with The Big Moon, which helps shape the group’s formation. Gently Tender develops from that existing network of musicians and from the creative momentum left by Palma Violets, turning that experience into a new project with a different emphasis.
