Career

Washington works as a British R&B musician and is linked to the Northern soul and mod scenes. His recorded work with The Ram Jam Band establishes him as a notable figure in 1960s R&B, while his later solo output extends his career into the 1970s and beyond.

Connections and influence

He is also noted for meeting Ian Brown at a birthday party in Manchester in 1984 and encouraging him to sing. Brown later forms The Stone Roses. Washington is the “Geno” referenced in Dexys Midnight Runners’ 1980 single of the same name, and his vocals also appear on “You Got Me”.
