generik
Generik is a Melbourne-born DJ and producer, also known as Tyson O’Brien and formerly as DJ Generik. He has been active since the mid-1990s and works in house and related club styles, with a broad interest in disco, funk, hip-hop, soul, classics, re-edits, ghetto funk and mashups. He is also described as a producer and curator of music.
Career and releases
Generik is associated with a number of club releases and remixes. In 2018 he remixes Halsey’s Bad at Love into a piano house track and reworks Dillon Francis’ Hello There into a groovier version. His earlier summer tracks include The Weekend with Nicky Van She, Late at Night, So High and Be There featuring A*M*E. These tracks reach ARIA Club Chart No. 1 and also appear in Shazam and Spotify Australian and US viral charts.
Residencies and performances
He holds residencies at Pacha Ibiza, Hakkasan and Omnia Nightclub in Las Vegas and Bali. He is described as an international DJ and has built a profile around a house sound shaped by his roots in the genre.
Other projects
Generik is part of the disco house duo Chat Noir, which charts in the ARIA Club Chart. He also runs a mix series called You Do You, presented as a showcase for the style and feel associated with his work.
