Generation

Generation is a hardcore and punk band formed in 2019 in Manchester, England. The group is made up of friends who have also played together in other hardcore bands, including Insist, Standpoint and Reflect. The band name is written without an article.

Style and influences

Their music starts from hardcore punk but also brings in melody and more structured alternative rock ideas. The sound is associated with DC hardcore, with references to bands such as Hüsker Dü, The Replacements, One Last Wish and Dag Nasty. Their writing is described as balancing expressive lyrics and feeling with a melodic, hardcore approach.

Releases

Generation first appears with the 2019 LP Call It A Life, released on IOU Records. That record presents their rev-summer-era hardcore style, and later releases show more progression. After a couple of EPs, their sound develops further towards melody and alternative rock structures. Satellites & Suns, their first EP since 2021, contains three songs and continues that direction with hooks and singalong melodies.

One of the band’s aims is to create a lasting group to write for over many years, while taking a different stylistic approach from their earlier projects.
