Generation Graveyard
Generation Graveyard, also known as Gengrave, is a London group that draws on hardcore, black metal and punk. Their lyrics and imagery focus on urban isolation, substance dependence and social upheaval, and they avoid a polished or easily categorised sound.
Style and themes
The group combines hardcore and black metal influences with a punk delivery. Their material is described as direct and uncompromising, with subject matter that centres on post-riot London, social tension and other forms of conflict. Their visual presentation matches this post-apocalyptic approach.
Releases
Their first EP, Generation Graveyard, is treated as a demo but is received positively for its dark, driven sound and its blunt treatment of topics that are often avoided. Another EP, Poison City, supports politically charged material set against an image of a riot-stricken London. A later EP, We Are the Empty, shifts towards more personal themes, reflecting discord, line-up changes and other problems.
Live activity and collaborations
Generation Graveyard performs live in support of its releases and shares stages with Black Breath, Viking Skull, Warrior Soul, The Defiled, Senser and Zodiac Mindwarp.
Line-up and status
The group goes through line-up changes, which become part of the background to its later material. Despite this, it is presented as resilient and continuing to push its confrontational style.
