Gavin Herlihy is an Irish writer, DJ and techno producer based in London. He works for Mixmag and has held roles there including club listings editor, news editor, music editor and features/Big Tunes editor. Before that, he starts his career as an intern at CNN in Atlanta, and he also writes for newspapers including the Irish Independent and The Scotsman.

Music

Herlihy begins making music after playing in a number of garage bands, before moving into DJing and production. His first track, Machine Ate My Homework, comes out on Mood Music in 2006 and receives support from Laurent Garnier, Luciano, DJ Hell, Tiefschwarz, Mylo, Ewan Pearson, Paul Oakenfold, Danny Howells and James Lavelle. A follow-up, So That’s What Happens, also appears on Moodmusic and is a collaboration with Craig Torrance, who also works at Mixmag. He also records a first remix for Alex Kid’s new label and says he plans to release a series of original tracks.

DJ work

He has been DJing professionally for three years and plays clubs including The End, Turnmills, Ministry of Sound and Dirty Disco in Leeds. His performances also take him to Ireland, Ibiza, Miami, Ukraine, Poland and Brazil.

Background

Herlihy is from Ireland and lives in London. Before focusing on electronic music, he plays in garage bands, and he says he is managed by Air London.
