Gary D.

Gary D. is the stage name of Gerald Mahlke, a DJ and producer from Hamburg, Germany. Born in 1964, he begins DJing in 1980 at the age of 16. He starts out mainly playing black music, then shifts direction in the late 1980s after coming into contact with house and acid music.

Career

Gary D. becomes resident DJ at Hamburg’s Unit Club. While there, he releases his first production, the Identity EP, in 1991. After the Unit Club closes in 1994, he moves to the Tunnel, where his career and the club’s profile both develop further. His sets and productions move towards hardtrance.

Releases and projects

In late 1995, Gary D. launches the first edition of the D.Trance compilation series. The series remains successful and later moves from hardtrance towards anthem and vocal trance. He continues to release his own material and has four albums and dozens of singles to his name.

His work is associated with electronic, hard trance, hardstyle and trance.
