Galley Beggar is a British folk-rock group from the United Kingdom, active since 2009. Formed in London, the band develops an approach to English folk rock that draws on the work of Fairport Convention, Pentangle and the acoustic side of Led Zeppelin.

Style and instrumentation

The group combines electric folk with the force of a rock band, and its live performances feature frequent instrument changes. Its material moves from songs and tunes associated with the collections of Cecil Sharp and Francis Child to more heavily amplified psychedelic passages.

Galley Beggar’s sound uses harmony vocals alongside electric and acoustic guitars, mandolin, violin, recorder, bouzouki, keyboards, bass and drums. Mat Fowler is a member of the group.
