Gage is the stage name of Pierre Gage, a Francophone Canadian singer and songwriter from Montreal, Canada. Born in 1977, he is of Jamaican and Haitian ancestry and works in French-language R&B and soul, with reggae influences also present in his music.

Career

He begins his music career while still at high school, after auditioning for the rock opera Starmania and taking the role of Johny Roquefort. His early musical influences include Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and Lauryn Hill, a mix that reflects both his broader listening and his Jamaican and Haitian roots.

A key stage in his career comes when he meets Corneille and Gardy Martin. The three form the group R'n'B O.N.E., with Corneille handling much of the writing and composition. The group’s single “Zoukin” reaches number one on the Canadian radio airplay chart. O.N.E. tours and opens for artists including Isabelle Boulay and Kelis.

When Corneille leaves the group in January 2001 to pursue a solo career, Gage also moves into solo work. He first concentrates on acting and theatre before returning to music. He continues to maintain a working relationship with Corneille and opens for him on Corneille’s 2003 tour.

Solo recordings

Gage gains wider attention as a solo artist with the single “Trop Fresh”. His first album, Soul Rebel, appears in July 2005. Most of the songs on the album are written, composed and produced by Corneille, and the record blends soul and reggae. His second album, Changer le monde, is released in 2008.
