Funkagenda

Funkagenda is a house and electronic music producer and DJ from Maidstone and West Hollywood. He works under the Funk Farm label and also runs Groovedigital and Pop Pop. His music sits in house, tech-house and minimal territory, and he builds sets through re-edits and remixes in his own style.

Career

He starts making music at the age of 13, when he helps program backing tracks for his father’s club act. He later forms bands at school, becomes a multi-instrumentalist and spends long periods working in a home four-track studio. In his late teens he fronts a soft rock band, then turns towards dance music after hearing Voodoo Ray. While studying at college, he continues making drum and bass and techno.

By the late 1990s, he focuses on house music, taking influence from Roger Sanchez, David Morales and Masters At Work, and from club spaces such as Wobble and Godskitchen. He learns DJing, begins playing bar and small club residencies, and then makes use of Pioneer CDJ equipment to play his own material more easily in sets.

Releases and collaborations

Funkagenda features on labels including Subliminal, Positiva, Big Love and Toolroom. He becomes known for production and remix work, and he produces with Mark Knight, ATFC, Trophy Twins and DJ Exacta. His work also connects him with 24 Management, alongside Nic Fanciulli, Steve Mac, Seb Fontaine and Chris Lake.

DJ work

Alongside studio work, he develops a regular international DJ schedule and plays in cities and countries including New York, Russia, Tunisia, Romania and Poland. His tracks and DJ sets build a reputation within house music, supported by his use of edits, remixes and club-focused production.
