Fujiya & Miyagi is a British electronic group from Brighton, active since 2000. The band’s lineup includes David Best and Matthew Collins, with the group’s earlier line-up also including Steve Lewis, Matt Hainsby and Lee Adams.

Style and influences

Their music is associated with electronic, indietronica and krautrock. The band cites 1970s krautrock groups such as Can and Neu! alongside early 1990s electronic artists including Aphex Twin as influences.

Releases

The group’s early albums include Electro Karaoke in the Negative Style and Remixes, followed by Transparent Things and Lightbulbs. Transparent Things is self-produced and issued on Tirk, while Lightbulbs is also self-produced and released on Full Time Hobby. Their fourth studio album, Ventriloquizzing, is produced by Thom Monahan and released on Full Time Hobby in the UK and Europe and on Yep Roc in the United States.

Collaborations and related names

The band’s release history includes remixes involving artists such as Two Lone Swordsmen and Cristian Vogel. The names Fujiya and Miyagi and Fujiya Miyagi also appear through collaborations and compilation appearances, including the Bomb the Bass track “Future Chaos” and the compilation Lovebox Weekender: London, 2007.
