Frett
Frett is the solo project of Simon Lucas-Hughes from Suffolk in the UK. The project is associated with electro-industrial, ambient, pop and rock, and its early work is recorded and produced at home.
Early releases and sound
EP1 is Frett’s first release. It uses angular guitar parts alongside electronic elements, with brooding production, quirky but balanced instrumentation, cutting guitars and a soft, aching vocal style. The songs are described as deeply personal and as carrying a sarcastic, colourful edge. The project’s sound is compared to a blend of Thom Yorke and The Strokes.
“Expectation” is the EP’s first single and combines overlapping instruments with a yearning vocal and a falsetto chorus. “Copy Cat” is presented as an angry song with a bitter edge, but also with a light sense of humour.
Activity and radio play
Frett writes and records music regularly, including remixes of both his own material and other musicians’ work. The project has played live sessions for BBC Radio, has been played several times on BBC Radio 1, and has performed live at venues across the UK.
