Frenic is a Bristol-based hip-hop DJ and producer whose work draws on hip-hop, funk, instrumental hip-hop and trip-hop. His music combines hip-hop influences with older retro sounds, and he describes himself as a hip-hop DJ who does not only play hip-hop records.

His sound is built from deep, emotional production and larger dance-music textures, with an emphasis on rhythm, low-end weight and a strong sense of movement. The result is music that is intended to “bounce”, while still carrying soulful elements and heavy bass. He is associated with the label This One Records.

One of his releases is the SoulBass E.P., which is described in terms of a future-funk dancefloor feel, with bubbling soul-inflected sounds and bass-heavy production. Frenic is also identified with the Dusted Wax Kingdom tag.

He is described by commentators as one of Bristol’s under-recognised figures in the city’s music scene.
