FREEMAN

Freeman is the stage name of Malek Brahimi, also known as Abdelmalek Sultan, a French hip hop artist and breakdancer. He is a member of IAM, alongside Akhenaton, Shurik'n, Khéops, Imhotep and Kephren. Born in Algiers, Algeria, he lives in Marseille and says that he is above all Algerian. He spends much of his life in the district of Belsunce in Marseille.

He first works with IAM as a breakdancer when the group forms in 1988, using the name Abdelmalek Sultan. He later begins rapping and appears on the group’s albums. In 1999, he releases his first solo album, L'palais de justice. He also appears as an actor in Comme un aimant, a 2000 film by Akhenaton and Kamel Saleh.

Freeman is also described as a singer, songwriter and musician. He is associated with French rap and hip hop, and also appears in other contexts under the same name, including a Finnish singer-songwriter from Lahti, a US-based rock band formed in 2014, and other unrelated artists.
