Freeda

Freeda is a hip-hop singer from Kragujevac, Serbia. She also records and performs as Katarina Djordjevic Freeda, and her birth date is given as 13 April. She starts writing songs at the age of 11 and records her first song, Suocavanje sa sobom (“Confrontation to yourself”). She then continues performing and writing new material.

Early career and releases

Freeda wins the Streetflow Competition, described as the only female MC of her level in that context. In 2010, she is invited to perform at an International Music Festival. The following year she appears on the reality TV show Serbian's God Talent and reaches the semi-finals. Her album Suocavanje (“Confrontation”) is presented as a collection of her emotions and opinions. She also appears as a guest on a number of mixtapes, including Sounds of Balcanic Streets in 2012.

Her stated influences include Nas, Promoe, Onyx, KRS-One, Busta Rhymes, Eminem and Lil’ Kim.

Another artist of the same name

Freeda is also the name of an indie-rock band formed in 2017 in Manchester, England. That group includes Sean Rowles on vocals, Callum Hignett on lead guitar, Cameron Meekums-Spence on rhythm guitar, Daniel Atherton on synth, Adam Barton on bass and Adam Jackson on drums. It plays festivals including Y Not Festival, Tramlines, Dot 2 Dot and 110 Above, sells out a headline show at the Deaf Institute in Manchester, and later headlines Manchester Academy 3. The band works with production duo Sugar House and releases singles including Let Me Down, 5AM, Young and Sundown.
