Fredy Massamba

Fredy Massamba is a singer-songwriter from Pointe-Noire, Congo, born in 1971. He begins singing and dancing in the street and in choirs before becoming a stage performer.

Career

He performs with Les Tambours de Brazza on several world tours, then develops a solo career. His solo work includes Ethnophony. He also appears as an Afro-European artist, describing his music and experiences through themes of life, journey, love, struggle, and cultural identity.

Collaborations and musical style

Massamba collaborates with Zap Mama, Didier Awadi and Manou Gallo, and has encounters in the United States with Bilal, Mos Def and The Roots. His music blends soul, hip hop, funk and African chants, with lyrics in Kikongo and Lingala. On stage, he performs with drums, bass, keyboards and percussion, and his voice is treated as a central instrument in the arrangement.

Festival appearances

He appears at Sfinks Festival, Festival Esperanzah, Festival Méditerranéen Morocco and an Indian tour in 2009.
