Frankie Bones

Frankie Bones is a techno and house music DJ and producer from Brooklyn, United States, born in 1966. He is also known by the name Frank Mitchell. His work sits within acid techno, electronic, rave and techno, and he is associated with the Sonic Groove label.

Career and role in rave culture

He is best known for helping bring rave culture to the United States after playing at a hangar party in the UK in 1989. The event grows far beyond its original scale, and he performs for a very large crowd as the sun comes up. After that experience, he helps introduce the style back in Brooklyn through a series of Storm Raves.

At one of these parties, a confrontation leads him to speak from a speaker about peace, love and unity, with respect later added to the phrase through discussion on Usenet. This becomes the basis of the PLUR credo: Peace, Love, Unity and Respect.

Background and associations

He says his first musical inspiration comes from his father’s record collection after his father is murdered. He later begins producing records and is offered a large gig in England on the strength of his compositions.

He is the brother of Adam X, who is also a techno DJ and producer. Frankie Bones is linked with a number of projects and aliases, including Mental Mayhem, Voodoo Doll, New Grooves, Delusions of Grandeur, The Gangsters of Freestyle, Flowmasters, Looney Tunes, Musto & Bones, O.N.I.T.
