Francois Kevorkian
Francois Kevorkian is a United States group associated with groove metal. The act is also known as François K, Francois K and Francois K., and its name is linked to the DJ and producer François Kevorkian, born François Kevorkian in Rodez, France, on 10 January 1954.
Background
Kevorkian grows up in a family shaped by music and technical work: his mother is a dentist and his father is a sound engineer. After his parents divorce, he lives with his mother until he is 13, then stays with his father for a period afterwards.
Early career
He attends college for a year before being expelled after starting a general strike. He then begins making music full-time. He later tries education again, but by 1976 he is living in New York and playing drums to help out the DJs at a dance bar.
DJ work and club career
Kevorkian learns the DJ equipment while working in the club. By the time the venue closes, he has already found new work as a DJ. He also learns how to manipulate records and tapes, and when the resident house DJ leaves, he takes over what becomes his first regular gig. He becomes a major figure in club underground DJ culture and develops an unusually large following for a DJ.
