Frànçois & The Atlas Mountains

Frànçois & The Atlas Mountains are a French-British pop group that mixes indie pop and folk pop. The band is led by French musician François Marry, who also appears as a touring member of Camera Obscura. Other members are also involved in Petit Fantôme, Jaune!, Archipel and Babe.

Background

Marry grows up in Saintes and studies at La Rochelle before moving to Bristol in 2003. He lives in the city for six years. Alongside the group, he also releases several lo-fi tapes and records.

Recorded work

The band's first album, The People to Forget, appears in 2006 and is mostly recorded live. It is released on the Bristol micro-label Stitch-Stitch. The second album, Plaine Inondable, follows in 2009 on Fence Records in the UK and Talitres in France. The third album, E Volo Love, is released in 2012 on Domino Recordings.

Reception

Plaine Inondable receives a four-star review from The Scotsman. E Volo Love also receives positive reviews, with The Skinny describing it as romantic and understated, The Independent noting its gentle indie-pop and Afropop echoes, and the NME rating it 7/10.
